Christmas and Radio Appearance update

First of all, allow me to apologize to anyone who was listening for me on the radio last Tuesday (December 26). Due to an unforseen problem on the station's end, the interview had to be rescheduled. I will be appearing this coming Tuesday, January 2, 2007, between 9:30 and 10:00 am. There is a link on the Ten Minas site for you to listen live online.

Second, I am standing here with my daughter who wanted me to write a new post on the blog. I had just read to her the entry about the nativity scene under our tree, and she asked me to explain to everyone that Santa also puts baby Jesus in the nativity when he comes to drop off the presents on Christmas Eve. In our family, this is a good way to connect the "secular" perceptions of Christmas that surround us with the true meaning. Santa has chosen Christmas to deliver presents because it is the holiest day of the year and because the wise men brough presents to baby Jesus.

Finally, my daughter asked me to tell you all that "It's gonna be the best Christmas ever with baby Jesus in the nativity under the Christmas tree" (she's four). I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and will have a happy new year. God bless. Stay tuned for more Ten Minas news.

Merry Christmas!

And unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given...

And hence, Jesus was born, and God came to Earth. Thanks be to God.

No matter what you get under the Christmas tree this year, never forget the best Christmas gift you've ever received, the gift of Jesus. This is why in my family we have a nativity scene under the tree in addition to the other presents. Its a reminder to us of what Christmas is all about.

Merry Christmas to you all. God bless.

Ten Minas Radio Appearance

Hello all! If you are available (and those of you who are off work really shouldn't have much of an excuse), please tune in to 95.1 WRBS out of Baltimore, Maryland on Tuesday morning, December 26, 2006, between 9:30 am and 10:00 am. If you are not in the Baltimore listening area, you can listen online. There is a link on the Ten Minas Ministries home page (www.tenminasministries.org). Ten Minas Ministries President Ken Coughlan will be appearing for a brief (3 minute) interview with morning show hostess Tracey Tiernan to discuss the Ten Minas Talent Pool and to drum up support (and ask people to sign up for the pool).

We'll be pre-recording the interview at 9:30 am, but it should air before 10:00 am (considering the show ends at 10:00 am). I hope you all can listen, and tell your friends and family to tune in too. We can't get this Talent Pool to work without the volunteers. Plus, this is an excellent radio station that I support wholeheartedly.

Thank you and God bless!

If you have any talents whatsoever (and the Bible is clear that we all do), you can help. And if you are a person in need of help, let us know and we may just be able to hook you up with someone who can help you. Please check it out! God bless.

A new addition

Just thought I'd put out an announcement that the body of Christ is scheduled to increase by one on or about May 22, 2007. My wife is expecting our second child. The story of how it happened is truly a testament to God.

My wife and I were not supposed to be able to have another child without the help of medical science. This summer, our four year old daughter came to us and said she wanted a baby brother or sister. "Knowing" that this couldn't happen, we tried to let her down easy and explained that the only way it could ever happen is if God wanted it to, and she'd have to talk to God.

A short time later, she told us that Mommy was going to have a baby. We explained again that she would have to talk to God about that, to which she replied that she had spoken to God, and He whispered in her ear that it was okay. You can imagine our surprise a few weeks later when we learned that my wife was pregnant.

Never doubt the power of God. Sometimes the faith of a child gives us an example to strive for in our own lives. God bless.

A theology lesson from Superman

OK. So I've decided to start using this more as a true blog rather than just a comment board for the articles on the Ten Minas website (www.tenminasministries.org). Only time will tell how often I actually will be able to post new thoughts.

A couple of nights ago, my wife and I had just watched the new Superman movie (which, by the way, either intentionally or unintentionally is filled with Christian imagery). Afterwards, we decided to show a few scenes to our four year old daughter. She certainly couldn't watch the whole thing (some parts would just be too scary for her), but she gets a kick out of some of the more tame scenes with Superman on the screen.

In one scene Lois Lane is getting upset with Superman for leaving for five years without even saying goodbye (the whole premise of the movie is what happens after he gets back). Lois says to Superman that "the world doesn't need a savior", or something to that effect.

Well, when my little four year old heard this, she looked squarely at Lois Lane and replied, "What about Jesus?" I love these moments. When my little girl hears about the world's need for a savior, she immediately thinks of the true savior of the world. Sometimes we can all learn something from our innocent children about where our focus should be.

By the way, Superman replied to Lois, "You say the world doesn't need a savior, but every day I hear people crying for one." There's a lesson to be learned here. The world may think it doesn't need a savior, but in reality countless people are crying out to the Lord every day, seeking to fill a void in their life that nothing else has been able to fill. We may not consciously admit our need for a savior, but we'll never be fulfilled without one.

Comments on the Argument for Christianity

For the sake of simplicity, I am setting up a separate "topic" for each category of articles on the website. If you have a question or comment on one of the "Argument for Christianity" articles, please comment on it here (if all comments were part of the same chain, we could be bouncing back and forth between topics in the same chain and it could get a bit confusing).

Welcome

Welcome to the official blog for Ten Minas Ministries, Inc., a non-profit Christian ministry. If you did not get here through a link from our website, the site is at http://www.tenminasministries.org. This blog is set up so that I (Ken Coughlan) can try to answer any questions you may have about the articles on the site. I openly accept criticism and debate, so please do not feel like you have to be a Christian to reply. The only caveat I have is that we keep it cordial. I firmly believe in polite discourse on both sides. There is no reason to be disagreeable just because we disagree. On the flip side, I do not expect anybody to compromise or sugarcoat their beliefs. I will always speak plainly and uncompromisingly about my beliefs. But I believe this can be done respectfully.

I may make some posts on some specific topics at a later date, but for now this exists largely as a feedback/question forum for the website. Also, please understand that I have a lot of time constraints, so do not take it personally if it takes me a while to respond. However, as long as things do not get out of hand, I will do my best to reply to all of your questions/concerns.

Thank you.

Ken Coughlan
President, Ten Minas Minsitries, Inc.
